Disciplinary Action Plan

Click here to review the Code of Conduct.

This Disciplinary Action Plan serves as a straightforward process for addressing behaviors beyond the scope of what our co-op can manage that require involvement from a parent or counselor. For example, fighting, foul language, and repeated misconduct, including hurtful social interactions (e.g., disrespect, gossiping, excluding others), and an unwillingness to participate and learn, without signs of remorse or progress. This is to maintain accountability and support our learners, so they feel safe and supported in a positive learning environment.

First offense: Verbal warning/redirection of behavior and explanation of the expectations for co-op. The incident will be documented, and parents or guardians will be informed via email or in person at pick-up.

Second offense: Verbal warning/redirection of behavior and explanation of the expectations for co-op. Parents will receive a written summary of the two incidents and must sign the form acknowledging the incidents and agreeing to the behavioral expectations of the co-op.

Third offense: If a child commits a third behavioral infraction, they will be suspended from the co-op for the remainder of the semester. Parents or guardians will be contacted for immediate to pick up. Parents will receive written documentation of all incidents leading to the suspension or removal.
Behavioral review: Following a suspension, a child’s return to the co-op is contingent upon review by the Disciplinary Action Team (typically a director and a teacher). This process includes a Behavioral Review Meeting with the parents or guardians and the child. During this meeting, the family must demonstrate:

  • Understanding of the behaviors that led to the suspension

  • Steps taken to address the behavior

  • Commitment to supporting the child’s success at co-op

Probation period: Upon return, the child will be placed on a one-month probation. During the probation period:

  • Any behavioral incident during the probation period that would normally result in an offense will be automatically escalated, and the student will be suspended again for a minimum of two weeks.

  • Three suspensions within the same academic year will result in expulsion from the co-op.

  • Expelled students may reapply in a future academic year. Reapplication does not guarantee re-enrollment.

The purpose of this process is to ensure the child is ready to rejoin the community in a way that is safe, respectful, and supportive for all learners. The focus is restoration, growth, and continued partnership with families.

Important Notes:

Zero-Tolerance Behaviors: Significant harmful actions that compromise the safety or well-being of others will result in immediate suspension, bypassing the above process.

Minor missteps: Students may be asked to spend time at the reflection table to regroup and refocus on behaviors that don't warrant an official offense.
